UNHCR publishes report on 2009 asylum statistics - 23 March 2010

The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) published on 23 march 2010 a statistical report of asylum applications lodged in Europe and selected non-European countries “Asylum Levels and Trends in Industrialized Countries 2009”.

“The notion that there is a flood of asylum-seekers into richer countries is a myth," said UN High Commissioner for Refugees António Guterres. "Despite what some populists claim, our data shows that the numbers have remained stable."
