The European Commission reacts to Romas’ deportations troughout Europe - 25 August 2010

After several weeks without any real reaction from the European Union after Romas’ deportations in some EU member States, the EU Commissioner for Justice, Fundamental rights and Citizenship, Madam Viviane Reding, declared "I expect that all Member States respect the commonly agreed EU rules on free movement, non-discrimination and the common values of the European Union, notably the respect for fundamental rights, including the rights of people belonging to minorities.".

The Commissioner assured that the situation will be examined in details the next days and that member States who did not respect EU legislation in deporting Roma from their territory "need to face the consequences".
