The European Commission adds another stone to its general system of control : she issues a new proposal for a European PNR system - 2 February 2011

The European Commission issued its new proposal for a directive on the use of Passenger Name Record data for the prevention, detection, investigation and prosecution of terrorist offences and serious crime. In other words, this is a proposal for a directive to regulate the collect of PNR data at the European level.

This proposal constitutes the last foundation stone of a general system of control which already includes systems like SIS, VIS, Eurodac or the use of body scanners. Moreover, the final purpose of the PNR data collect, which was beforehand justified only by the fight against terrorism, is today also justified by the fight against serious crimes.
