Open letter to Ms. Viviane Reding on pre-trial detention - June 2012

Thirteen civil society organisations sent an open letter to Ms. Viviane Reding, vice-president of the European commission in charge of fundamental rights, on pre-trial detention in the European Union.

Following the consultation on detention launched by the Commission in autumn 2011, the NGOs call on the European commission to present concrete proposals to reform the pre-trial detention regime in EU member States, in order to end its excessive and unjustified use.
