FRA report on “The situation of Roma in 11 EU Member States. Survey results at a glance” - 23 May 2012

The European Union Fundamental Rights Agency published on May 23, 2012 a report called “The situation of Roma in 11 EU Member States. Survey results at a glance”.

This report presents the results of the surveys held by FRA into the Roma communities of Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, France, Greece, Italy, Hungary, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia and Spain.

According to FRA, those data are “a first step in addressing the severe lack of data on socio-economic situation of Roma in the EU and the fulfillment of their rights”.

The report shows that the situation of Roma in EU is still very precarious and worse, on average, than the situation of the non-Roma in the areas of employment, education, housing and health. Roma also still suffer from discrimination, and they do not know enough their rights in the EU to make them being respected.
