Ales Bialiatski, sentenced to four and a half years of jail - 24 November 2011

Ales Bialiatski, president of the Belarusian Human Rights Center “Viasna” and vice-president of FIDH, was sentenced on Thursday 24 November to four and half years detention, the payment of a fine, as well as the confiscation of his property. AEDH condemns this arbitrary decision aiming at silencing this human rights defender, and encourages you to join the general mobilisation launched by FIDH and calling for its immediate and unconditional release.
