22 April 2010 - Publication of an official draft consolidated text of the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA)After continual pressure from European Parliament and civil society, the European Commission and its international negotiating partners have made available an official draft consolidated text of the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA). However, compared to the text leaked in March, only references to specific partners’ positions were removed from the document. While AEDH is encouraged by the Commission’s move to meet its legal obligation to inform Parliament, it is opposed to the content of ACTA itself and calls for on-going mobilisation against its invasive proposals. The European Data Protection Supervisor has raised concerns of large-scale internet monitoring and lack of safeguards to data protection. The entering into force of this agreement would be an unacceptable breach of privacy, data protection and individual liberties. Download the draft text (available in English only). |
