HLHR (Greece) : the last two press releases of the Hellenic league - 31 January 2012

The first press release, published on January the 30th, deals with the reception of migrants and cases of detention and torture. The second one, also published on January the 30th, tackles the issue of the right to health, and the “constant frivolousness” of governments regarding issues of environmental protection which endanger public health.

The German International League for Human Rights (Internationalen Liga für Menschenrechte), member of AEDH, gathered with other German association on January 27th 2012 in front of the Museum of History in Berlin, at the occasion of the anniversary of the Auschwitz camp liberation.

The Czech Helsinki Committee supports Ales Bialiatski, Vice-president of FIDH, who has been detained in Belarus since August 4th, 2011. The Czech Helsinki Committee calls the civil society organisations and European institutions as well as the Council of Europe to protest against the trial Ales Bialiatski will face and against his detention.

EDRI (European Digital RIghts) sent an open letter signed by a relatively high number of organisations working on data protection, related to the recast of the Data retention Directive.

LDH (France) : A tramway for Roma people : the Government sinks into disgrace - 2 September 2011

In Saint-Denis, on August 31st, after Roma families from Romania have seen their shantytown evacuated, they were cramed into a tram train by police forces until reaching Noisy-le-Sec station and then, were forced to take the rapid transit train for Paris suburbs which aimed at making them leave the department.

LDH joins victims of reception crisis in the complaint they lodged today against FEDASIL as well as against Ministers and State Secretary of Social Integration and Fight against Poverty.

ILMR (Germany) : The international league for Human Rights congratulates peace activists as winners of the Price for Peace 2011 - 24 August 2011

This press release aims at congratulate activists for peace and opponents to weapons exportations as award winners of the Aachen Price for Peace 2011. The price will be awarded this year to Jürgen Grässlin as well as to the « Informationsstelle Militarisierung e.V » association. At the occasion of the award ceremony which will be held on September 1st in Aachen, Rolf Gössner, the Vice-president of the German League, will sing the praises of the winners.

APDHA (Andalucia): Petition - European citizenship and voting rights for all residents

AEDH is pleased to inform you about the latest campaign appeal launched by APDHA (Asociación Pro Derechos Humanos de Andalucía). The APDHA plans to petition the Spanish Presidency to support voting rights for all residents, not only citizens, within the EU and to urge the Spanish Prime Minister Zapatero to present this initiative to the European Council, helping to ensure a more democratic and inclusive Europe.

Internationale Liga für Menschenrechte (ILMR) : Please take action! Refugee Savers at Italian Court - October, 5th 2009

The German Captain Stefan Schmidt, the journalist Elias Bierdel and the first mate Vladimir Daschkewitsch were navigating their ship, the Cap Anamur, towards Basra, Iraq, in 2004 with a load of humanitarian supplies when they spotted a group of 37 refugees lost at sea in an inflatable raft. After ten days at sea, the Cap Anamur landed in Italy and both, Schmidt and Bierdel were arrested. The ship was impounded and the refugees were deported. The Italian government is currently prosecuting both Schmidt and Bierdel and is asking for a four-year prison (4 years!) sentence and 400,000 EUR fine. The International League for Human Rights raises a sharp protest against the attempt of the Italian government to criminalize the humanitarian aid of Captain Schmidt and Elias Bierdel. We call for an EU-wide solidarity with the accused.

APDHA (Andalusia): A call for the respect of Human Rights in borders - September, 21st 2009

At least 14 people lost their lives in Ceuta and Melilla between September and October 2005, trying to cross the border fences. This is in their memory and in memory of all those who perish every day in trying to reach Europe and therefore achieve a life worthy to be lived, that the APHDA is pleased to invite you to the 5th Caravan at the Ceuta border on October, 11th 2009. On February, 25th 2009, in Norrent-Fontes (Pas-de-Calais), 13 migrants from Eritrea and a 59 year-old woman have been arrested; the woman’s house was carried out a search while she was being held up during nine hours for having helped the migrants. (in French)
